Ongoing Regular Starr Libary Programs

Scrabble ~ Wednesdays, 1-3pm. Free and open to all.

Brain Games ~ Wednesdays, 1-2pm.  Brain Games is a fun program for older citizens using memory games and puzzles to expand their brain power.  Free - just bring your brain! Downstairs.

Embroidery Group ~ On the second and fourth Wednesday of every month, 10am - 1pm.

Story Time ~ Thursdays, 10:15 and 11:15am (2 sessions). 

The Local History & Genealogy Room is open Tuesdays & Thursdays, 10am - 3pm.

Starr Book Club ~ Last Monday of the month, 7 - 8:30pm.  February: "In the Garden of Beasts: Love, Terror and an American Family in Hitler's Berlin" by Erik Larson.

Starr Library Board of Trustees Meetings ~ Third Monday of the month, 5 - 6pm.  Except when that day falls on a holiday; then the meeting is the next day. Open to the public.

 

Outside Organizations' Programs

Chair Yoga ~ Mondays, 10:30-11:30am.  A gentle yoga class run by Satya Yoga Center; $10/class. For more info, call 845-876-2528.

AARP Tax Aide ~ Feb. 6 to April 16th; Mondays 3-6pm & Tuesdays 9am-2pm.

For taxpayers with low and moderate income, with special attention to those age 60 and older. Free federal and state tax preparation and e-filing. Call for your appointment today. AARP membership NOT required; no age restrictions.

Environmental Issues Affecting Homeowners ~ Tue., Feb. 7, 6pm. Talk by David Andrick (A1 Home Inspection, Est. 2001).  Come and learn from a seasoned, licensed NY/CT home inspector about the important environmental aspects of the home you own or are currently on the hunt for. Areas covered will include: asbestos, lead, radon, well water, mold and more. Free! No RSVP required.

Arts Education Grants for the 2012-13 School Year ~ Wed., Feb. 8, 4:00 - 5:30pm.  Eve Madalengoitia, Director of Programs & Arts Services at the Dutchess County Arts Council, will lead a series of seminars at locations throughout Dutchess and Ulster Counties to help potential applicants understand the elements of a strong AE program and develop a competitive application. Eve will also be able to assist teachers and/or teaching artists to find appropriate partners. All interested parties are welcome to attend these seminars whether or not they have a specific project planned. Rhinebeck Historical Society Talk ~ Fri., Feb. 24, 7:30 - 9pm.  Have you ever wondered who lived in your house before you did? David Miller will tell you how to find out, using his search for the previous inhabitants of his house as an example.

"Living Independently... In Community" Information Session ~ Tues., Feb. 28, 6:30 - 8pm.  If you have wondered about the movement called "Aging-in-Place" that has been reported in the New York Times, the AARP magazine and the Poughkeepsie Journal, attend this program to learn how it is growing in Dutchess County and now emerging in Rhinebeck. Nina Lynch, retired Aging Information Services Specialist at Dutchess County’s Division of Aging Services, board member of Hudson Valley Home Matters, Northern Dutchess Caregivers Coalition and a founder of Rhinebeck@Home, Inc., will speak.
